Starting from January 1, 2020, completing a 2-Wheel training class will no longer automatically grant an unrestricted endorsement. Instead, it will result in a Learner's Permit by default. To obtain a full endorsement from the Department of Licensing, additional testing will be required at an added cost.

Please note that MTI Staff does not add permits or endorsements to your license. You will not be legally authorized to ride until you complete the process either by visiting a License Service Office in person or using the online option provided by the Department of Licensing.

Prerequisites for Intermediate Rider Training BRC2-Permit Class:

The Intermediate Rider Training BRC2-Permit Class is not a "Learn to Ride" class, but rather a "Learn to Ride Better" class. Due to the nature of this class, you must possess a certain level of skill. You should be able to:

  1. Safely operate the motorcycle by coordinating the clutch, throttle, steering, and brakes.
  2. Maintain full control of the motorcycle at all times while ensuring safety.
  3. Stop the motorcycle safely at predetermined points.
  4. Maneuver the motorcycle around curves and corners while maintaining a predetermined path.
  5. Accept and implement coaching tips.

To verify your skills and suitability for this class, an evaluation exercise will be conducted. If you are unable to safely complete the evaluation exercise and meet the stated objectives, you will be dismissed from the class without a refund. A more suitable class for your skill level and development will be recommended, and an additional fee will be required for further training.

You will also need to complete an online eCourse covering street strategies, rider judgment, and decision-making skills. The eCourse must be completed within 30 days of your class start date, and you must bring a copy of your completion certificate to the class. While participation in the class is possible without completing the eCourse, you will not receive a completion card.

The link to access the eCourse and instructions on how to register will be emailed to you approximately one hour after you complete the class registration.

Students Under 18:

For students under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver. The signing must be done in the presence of the class instructor or other Motorcycle Training, Inc. (MTI) staff. If you are unable to attend the first class session with your under 18 student, you may request a waiver and Notary Acknowledgment, and have the waiver signed in front of a Notary.

Failure to have the waiver signed in front of an MTI staff member or provide a notarized copy will result in the student being excused from the class with no refund offered.

Cancellations:

Before registering for the class, please ensure that you can attend all sessions.

Student Cancellations:

To cancel or make changes to your class, please submit a written request. You can email your request to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The date of your email will be considered the date of the change or cancellation.

If you notify us at least three days before the class start date, we can issue a refund for your course tuition or reschedule you for another class with a $25.00 fee.

There will be no refunds or rescheduling if you change or cancel within three days of the start of your scheduled class. If you are late, do not show up, or do not have the required riding gear (see Required Riding Gear below), your seat in the class and the class fee will be forfeited. To enroll in a future class, you will be required to pay a fee.

MTI Cancellations:

We strive to complete all scheduled classes, but there may be instances where conditions compromise the safety of both students and instructors. In such cases, your instructor will cancel the class.

If a class is canceled, we will offer you a full refund or reschedule you for a class with available seats.

If a class does not have the minimum required number of riders (4) two days before the scheduled start date, the class may be canceled. If this happens, we will make every effort to contact you. You may choose between a full refund or being scheduled for another class.

Counsel Out/Student Self Drop/No Show:

It is essential to be on time and present for the entire duration of the class. Missing any part of the class may result in dismissal. The courses emphasize the risks associated with motorcycle riding, which also apply during practice sessions. The instructor may dismiss students who do not meet exercise objectives, cannot keep pace with the curriculum, pose a hazard to themselves or others, or drop the bike. You may also choose to drop out if you do not feel comfortable or believe you are unable to safely control the motorcycle or keep up with the curriculum. In such cases, we will work with you to provide extra training or allow you to re-enroll in a class at a later date at a reduced rate. No refunds or rescheduling will be offered without a fee.

Being a no-show or canceling with less than 72 hours' notice will result in the forfeiture of all fees paid. Re-enrollment will be at the regular class rate.

Re-Tests:

If you do not pass either the skills or knowledge test, your instructor will provide recommendations based on your overall performance in the class and the test. The options may include a retest with no further training, additional classroom or range training, or retaking the class. While your instructor will make recommendations, the final decision on how you wish to proceed before retaking the test rests with you. Any test taken beyond the one free retest may have associated charges.

Any retake of either test must be done within 30 days of the ending date of your class. While the first retake is free, charges may apply for additional training provided in preparation for the free retake. Additional classes taken may be offered at a reduced rate.

Required Items to Bring:

  • Glasses, sunglasses, goggles, or face shield
  • Full-fingered gloves (preferably leather)
  • Long-sleeve shirt or jacket
  • Long pants, preferably denim or sturdier, in good repair with no holes, cuts, or tears
  • Sturdy boots or shoes that completely cover your ankle (canvas high-top shoes or Romeo-style boots with elastic side panels are not acceptable)
  • Personal helmet: properly fitting and DOT compliant (loaner helmets are no longer available)
  • There will be no refund or rescheduling if you are dismissed for improper riding gear. When considering gear, imagine yourself sliding down the training range at 20 MPH without your motorcycle and dress accordingly. Your gear must meet the minimum standards outlined above.

Optional Items to Bring:

Please check the weather forecast prior to your class and be prepared for any conditions. We do not cancel riding sessions due to light rain or variations in temperature. The weather is an integral part of motorcycling, and we will ride unless your instructor determines that it is impeding your learning or is unsafe.

Consider bringing the following:

  • Riding gear suitable for all conditions, such as rain gear, a heavy jacket, and gloves, especially during spring or fall.
  • Sunscreen and lip balm with sunscreen
  • Bandanna
  • Sports drinks. Water will be provided.
  • Lunch/snacks (a lunch break will be taken, usually between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on class needs). A refrigerator is available.

Student Provided Motorcycles:

We provide motorcycles for most classes. However, you may bring your own bike if certain conditions are met. Please note that we do not provide a motorcycle for endorsement testing; only for classes and the associated test.

To bring your own motorcycle, you must:

  • Provide proof of ownership or have a signed note from the owner giving permission for the bike to be used in the class.
  • Ensure that the motorcycle is insured and carries the minimum state liability limits.
  • Make legal transportation arrangements to get the motorcycle to our training facility. Either you or another person must possess at least a learner's permit to ride the bike to class, or you must make other legal transportation arrangements, such as trailering.
  • Your bike must have enough fuel to complete the class and must pass a safety inspection by your instructor prior to use.

Please note that certain motorcycles are not appropriate for training. Three-wheelers with enclosed seating, automotive-type controls or seating, and motorcycles with stabilizing wheels installed will not be allowed in the program. Student-owned motorcycles or three-wheelers that do not require an endorsement, or are not street legal, registered, or licensed, cannot be used. Any motorcycle deemed unsafe for any reason will not be allowed in any two or three-wheel course.

Inside storage is not available for personal motorcycles, and Motorcycle Training Inc. will not be responsible for any vehicle parked on our property. Your instructor will make the final determination regarding whether your motorcycle may be used in the class.

Class Results Entry:

Your class results will be entered directly into the Department of Licensing (DOL) computer system. Results will be posted within three full business days after your class completion. If your class ends on Sunday, your results will be entered by the end of business on Wednesday. If your class ends on Wednesday afternoon, your results will be entered by the end of business on Monday.

To legally ride, you must visit a DOL Service Office or use the online process to add your permit or endorsement after completing the class.
